DOING his bit: young fundraiser Nathan Pollitt
A SIX year old has followed in the footsteps of his caring parents to raise funds for sick babies.
With his mum Amanda Kerrigan a children’s ward staff nurse at the Royal Oldham Hospital and his dad tackling marathons to raise money for its new health “supercentre”, young Nathan Pollitt wanted to do his bit.
So the youngster completed the 1.5km Manchester BUPA mini-run to raise £160 so far in sponsorship money for the hospital’s “In Your Hands” appeal. The appeal is raising money to buy equipment for the centre, which will open in early December.
Nathan was inspired by his parents, whom he had heard talking about the appeal.
Amanda, said: “His dad, Mark, has recently run the Manchester, Edinburgh and Chester marathons for the appeal and this inspired Nathan to also play his part. I was so proud of him.”
The appeal is hoping to raise £200,000 to help the new centre.
Once complete, the Royal Oldham will be one of three regional centres providing the highest level of intensive care to the smallest, most vulnerable babies. The new unit will house 37 neonatal cots.
Well over 110 expert staff will treat around 550 babies a year
