Tip-off leads to drugs haul

POLICE have discovered one of the “biggest and most sophisticated” cannabis farms of its kind in a terraced house in Oldham.

Officers say there were hundreds of cannabis plants worth around £250,000 in the property in Horsedge Street.

They revealed that electrical equipment used to cultivate the crop had been dangerously installed.

The Chronicle was given exclusive access by Greater Manchester Police moments after the haul was uncovered yesterday, following a tip-off.

A member of the public reported several men, possibly Chinese or Vietnamese, using the property.

Officers got a search warrant and found plants in most rooms.

PC Graham Turner said: “This is certainly one of the most sophisticated finds we have come across. It would have taken months to prepare.“

About 100 young plants were found in early growth, with almost the same number of almost fully grown plants upstairs.

Officers revealed the operation could be part of a large drugs crime organisation.

Anyone with information can call GMP’s non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.
