The scene of devastation after the blast
FAMILIES affected by the Shaw blast still face an anxious wait over the future of their houses, five weeks on.
Eight properties on Buckley Street have been demolished, including the three obliterated by the explosion. It is likely more houses will be bulldozed, Oldham Council has revealed.
Other properties are still being monitored by insurers and building inspectors.
An Oldham Council spokesman said: “Significant structural repair work and detailed assessments will be taking place for some time to come.
“Affected residents will be informed of the situation as the work progresses.
“Oldham Council is working closely with insurers to establish a common approach to the demolition and repairs to ensure the lowest possible stress for residents affected.”
The site of the disaster, which struck on Tuesday, June 28 — taking the life of two-year-old Jamie Heaton — is still cordoned off as an active demolition site.
Jamie’s neighbour Andrew Partington (27), who police wish to question over the incident, is still unconscious in hospital after suffering severe burns.
