Toddler in park infection fear

AN inquisitive toddler is to undergo a series of blood tests after he picked up a discarded condom in a Royton park.
The three year old was walking in Dogford Road Park with his parents
He ran into the children’s play area and before his dad could stop him grabbed the used condom, which was hanging on the edge of the slide. The ground was littered with broken glass, condoms, sanitary towels and bloody bandages.
The tot’s parents phoned NHS Direct who advised a trip to his GP to make sure he hasn’t picked up an infection. They are now waiting for the results.
The toddler’s anxious dad said: “He is only three so he didn’t realise it was dangerous.
“I go to the park every night with the dog and we take our son at least once a week. The play area has been getting steadily worse. The bigger parks in Oldham are kept in a fantastic condition but the smaller ones need to be kept to the same standard.
“I think all the equipment needs jet-washing in light of the nature of the waste. Until this happens I will not be taking my son.”
Councillor Jean Stretton, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and devolved services, said: “We will pick up these specific complaints with the anti-social behaviour and neighbourhood police teams.”
