Nuisance roadworks face tough penalties
Date published: 01 August 2012
OLDHAM Council has new powers to take action against organisations whose roadworks are unecessarily disruptive.
Any organisations must now apply for a permit to carry out work on the highway — which includes roads, cycleways and footways. The local authority can reject the work if it believes it to be unnecessarily disruptive. Applicants will also be subject to penalties if work overruns or conditions aren’t met.
