A COMMUNITY is rallying to support a cause dear to a special Chadderton man.
When Eric Armitage was struck down by multiple system atrophy he and his wife Angela pledged to help raise £1 million towards research and to raise awareness of the little-known killer disease.
Sunday sees a major push towards their goal as family and friends take part in a Blackpool to Oldham bike ride and Chadderton Hall Park stages its summer fair to help boost funds.
Angela says she has been overwhelmed by the response from the community and businesses who have pledged support.
“Everyone has been amazing,” said Angela. Eric (58), who was diagnosed with the rare neurological condition in 2007, ran the Woodwork Project in Chadderton Hall Park and was an employment mentor for people with disabilities for Oldham Council for over 20 years.
