GP blasts motorists who ignored bleeding child

A doctor has criticised motorists who failed to stop after a child on a bike was knocked down in Failsworth.
Dr Zahid Chauhan was the first medical professional on the scene when the 12-year-old boy was involved in an accident with a car on Monday.
He was shocked to witness a “lack of compassion” as car drivers swerved around the injured youth to avoid being caught in traffic.
“I did what I had to do and stopped, because there was no ambulance there at the time. He was bleeding badly from his head and was drifting in and out of consciousness.
“I gave him some first aid, I tried to get him breathing steadily and applied pressure to his injuries, and put him in the recovery position. There were a few other people helping me.
“What really annoyed and shocked me was that people were still driving and going about their business when there was a child in the road. They were swinging their cars right around him and just getting on with their day.”
The youngster underwent scans that showed no permanent head damage, but he had broken both his legs. His condition is stable.
