Oldham dawdles in Internet slow lane
Date published: 07 August 2012
ALMOST one in five homes in Oldham is missing out on basic broadband speeds — the highest numbers across Greater Manchester.
Around 18.5 per cent of Oldham homes and businesses can’t get “basic” 2mb service — which the government has promised for everyone by 2015.
But an Ofcom interactive map shows 88 per cent of Oldham currently has “superfast” speeds, at a minimum 24mb (though actual speeds are rarely more than a third to a half of this).
