Date published: 07 August 2012
THE villages of Saddleworth step back in time to celebrate Yanks Weekend again this week.
The annual event — which celebrates local filming of the Richard Gere film “Yanks” — will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
Saddleworth School will be transformed into a military camp complete with battle re-enactments, a Dakota flyover and vehicle exhibitions.
There will be a host of wartime entertainment, period stalls and a craft fair.
On Saturday, Uppermill Civic Hall will host a tea dance with DJ Major Swing from 11am-2pm.
The Backstep Boogie Club will offer dance lessons and there will also be wartime films screened. Entry is £3.
The Victory Swing Ball starts at 7.30pm at the same venue.
Advance tickets are £15 including a wartime supper and military or civilian dress is requested.
On Sunday the highlight of the weekend is a military parade and convoy through the Saddleworth villages.
