Mill town to moors isn’t half a tough run

Runners set to resume local event
OLDHAM’S half-marathon is back — and promises to be one of the toughest in the country.

Registration for the 13-mile “Mill Town to Moors” race has been launched by runners and deputy council leader Shoab Akhtar. The run was last held in 2009.

Around 300 runners are expected to compete on October 21. The hilly route starts in the town centre before going up Huddersfield Road and Ripponden Road to Delph before heading back into Oldham.

Assistant race director Mark Kelly said: “We think it is one of the most difficult half-marathons. Freckleton is undisputedly the hardest, but this is in the top three. If you aren’t a good runner already you may find yourself being picked up by the minibus!”
