Tributes flood in for popular Kyle
MOVING tributes have been paid to a popular teenager who died after a 40ft fall from a balcony in a tragic accident.
Kyle Winterbottom (16), described as a “sports superstar” suffered serious head injuries at a block of flats on the Eldon Street estate in the early hours of Saturday. He died at the Royal Oldham Hospital later that day.
The former Hathershaw College pupil, from Limeside, was set to receive good GCSE results and excel further in his love of sport.
Police confirmed they are not treating the incident as suspicious, after reports a party took place in a nearby flat at Heywood House.
Paramedics took the youngster to the Royal Oldham Hospital at 2.20am after spending 20 minutes at the scene.
The spot has since been turned into a floral tribute as friends and family paid their respects to the youth, who has seven brothers and sisters.
Lorna Philip, assistant headteacher at Hathershaw College, said: “Kyle was one of a group of youngsters who showed great sporting promise.”
Scores of posts have been made on Facebook and Twitter to the youngster, who for five years played in the youth section at Oldham St Anne’s Rugby Club.
