‘Corrie’ star quits Twitter
Date published: 14 August 2012
OLDHAM actress Anne Kirkbride has quit Twitter after being targeted by internet bullies.
Anne, who plays Coronation Street’s Deirdre Barlow, decided to leave the social networking site after followers made fun of her neck.
The 58 year old was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1993 when she found a lump in her neck but she beat the disease.
Saying goodbye to her followers, Anne, daughter of late Evening Chronicle cartoonist Jack Kirkbride, tweeted: “Been nice knowing you, Twitter. Apologies to all the lovely people I’ve met on here. But in all honesty, I’ve had enough.”
She is the latest in a list of celebrities who have quit Twitter following unwelcome messages.
Fellow Corrie actress, Oldhamer Shobna Gulati, quit Twitter earlier this year after suffering racist abuse.
