MAGIC moment: Oldham’s Olympic hockey bronze medallist Nicola White shows her prize to her mum in Hyde Park
NICOLA White’s mum Gill — an ever-present at the Olympic hockey tournament — says her daughter’s part in helping Great Britain win bronze is down to a mixture of dedication and determination.
And to look at Nicola with a medal around her neck “has made her life worthwhile”.
Gill said: “Since she was eight she wanted to be an Olympian. It is through her energy and talent that she has fulfilled her dream. We’re so proud of her. We’re all on another planet.”
Even after the disappointment of losing to Argentina in the semi-final on Wednesday, Gill knew they would pick themselves up for one final game.
She added: “They came back so strong after that defeat and outplayed New Zealand. I was confident they would do, because they wanted a medal so much. It has made my year. In fact, it has made my life worthwhile.”
