England Under-17s call for Blue Coat midfield star
Failsworth’s Katie Zelem is aiming to be among the country’s next Olympic football hopefuls.
Katie (16) — a member of the Manchester United Foundation’s Girls’ Centre of Excellence from the age of eight — has been picked to join an England Under-17s training camp.
The midfielder will spend four days in Loughborough where the squad will prepare for future UEFA tournaments.
The camp culminates with an inter-squad match.
The Blue Coat schoolgirl is keeping football in the family: her dad Alan was a goalkeeper for Macclesfield Town and her uncle Peter played at centre-back for Wolverhampton Wonderers, Burnley and Preston.
Her cousin Ross plays cricket for Lancashire and football for Oldham Schools.
Katie said: “I’ve been privileged to play for England before and I’m really excited to be selected.”
