Burglary pair ‘didn’t fit in’
Date published: 17 August 2012
TWO men looking for properties to burgle in Greenfield were arrested because they “stuck out like a sore thumb.”
Residents contacted police when they saw the pair acting suspiciously.
Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court was told Samuel Lord and John Marland had broken into one home at The Paddock after removing a pane of glass from a conservatory.
The court was told one of the residents thought their presence strange, and they “didn’t fit in” in an area with many large and high-value homes.
Lord (22), who had pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to steal, was jailed for two years, and Marland (18), who pleaded guilty to the same offence, was given 12 months custody at a young offenders’ institution, suspended for 18 months.
Sentencing them, Judge Timothy Mort said: “You obviously went out as a team, looking for places you could break in to. It was done in broad daylight, but you stuck out like a sore thumb.”
