A HEROIN addict has admitted stealing a puppy from the RSPCA — before selling it for a bottle of sherry.
Lisa Gilmour (45) of Union Street was conditionally discharged from Oldham Magistrates’ Court yesterday after pleading guilty to stealing the tiny Staffordshire bull terrier earlier this year.
Gilmour as seen on CCTV footage at the Rhodes Bank shelter.
She snatched the puppy and left, but was later stopped by a PCSO. By that time she had already sold the puppy to a friend for alcohol.
Tim Hughes, defending, said: “The fact that it was a bottle of sherry tells you everything you need to know, sadly. It was not a planned offence.
“This is not a dog that’s been stolen to order but is a drunken escapade more than anything else.”
He said Gilmour had emotionall problems at the time, and had turned to alcohol and heroin. She has since sought help for her problems
