Oldham Sixth Form College students celebrate their fantastic results
THE race is on for university places after Oldham A-level students yet again set a record-breaking standard.
Crompton House School witnessed a 98.6 per cent pass rate — with half of the grades A*, A or B.
Top of the crop was Andrew Kelly who bagged five A grades to study medicine at Cardiff, and Andrew Brocklehurst with 2A*, 2A and a B to study Chemistry at Oxford’s Keble College.
Head Sarah Calvert said the vast majority of the 139 students will be going to university.
She said: “We’ve lived up to the faith Ofsted put in us in June with more outstanding A Level results. Building on last year both the pass rate and average points per entry have increased.”
Those heading to English universities this autumn will be the first to pay fees of up to £9,000 a year.
Under a new admissions system, there is now no limit on the numbers of students with two As and a B universities can recruit — which will allow colleges to offer last–minute places to youngsters who do better than expected, but will also means they are likely to have less flexibility for just-below-par students.
