Record results for Blue Coat students

BLUE Coat School is celebrating its best ever A-level results.

The overall pass rate is 99.6 per cent with the percentage of A*/A grades at 27.2 per cent — up 6.5 per cent on last year.

Average student achievement is 30 UCAS points higher than last year and 27 pupils achieved three A*s or better.

Deputy head Brian Devenport said: “There were numerous individual successes – meaning Blue Coat students will be studying across Britain from Cambridge and London to Durham and Newcastle, Oxford and Bath to Leeds and Liverpool. Well done to all our students and their parents.”

Rebecca Cavanagh, from Ashton, did so well Oxford University is offering her a better course than the one she applied for. She scooped A*s in biology, chemistry, maths and citizenship and an A in general studies.

Jonathan Beilby, from Greenfield, can continue to pursue his ambition to run a zoo after scooping two A*s in chemistry and physics and an A in biology. He also got an A for an extended science project and will study natural sciences at Cambridge University.

He said: “I have always wanted to work in a zoo. I’m not sure in what capacity yet, maybe in management. I knew my grades must have been good but it was still fantastic seeing them in black and white. My parents are over the moon.”

Alannah Madden, from Bardsley, scooped As in biology, chemistry, maths, citizenship and general studies. She will study medicine at Manchester University.

Andrew Walford, from Mossley, was delighted with his three A*s in maths, further maths and physics. He is going to Leeds University to study maths.

Sarah Berry, from Garden Suburb, achieved three A*s in biology, history and general studies, an A in English Literature and a B in chemistry. She will study English at Leeds University.
