Murder probe: appeal over car
Date published: 17 August 2012

ABANDONED: police want to hear about sightings of the Ford Fiesta that was dumped in Lord Lane.
DETECTIVES investigating a murder involving guns and grenades have issued a second appeal over a car abandoned in Failsworth.
They have also revealed that the grenades used in the fatal attack on David Short (46) at a house on Folkestone Road East, Clayton, and another incident minutes later in Droylsden, were military grenades from the former Yugoslavia.
Failsworth residents were shocked on Friday when an Army bomb disposal squad was called to a Ford Fiesta dumped by two suspects in Lord Lane at 11.30am following a police chase. Mr Short had been killed 30 minutes earlier.
Officers hunting for Dale Cregan (29), from Droylsden, and Anthony Wilkinson (33), from Beswick, over the murder say the car — a silver five-door Ford Fiesta, registration BJ52 XMX — had been purchased on the afternoon of Thursday, August 9.
Officers are keen to hear from anyone who saw a white Vauxhall Combo van any time after it was hired from Salford Van Hire at 4.45pm on Thursday evening, up to 10.30am on Friday morning. It was abandoned in Luke Road, Droylsden.
Police say any information about either vehicle, no matter how seemingly trivial, could be vital. Contact the Major Incident Team on 0161-856 3301 or 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111.
