Workers launch fresh bid to save Remploy

A LAST-GASP bid has been made to keep Remploy factories open, including Oldham’s Ashton Road site.
Staff travelled to 10 Downing Street to hand over more than 8,000 signatures to support the case against the nationwide closures.
Half of Remploy’s 54 factories are to close by the end of the year, 18 will close or be sold next year and the remaining nine face an uncertain future.
The Bardsley site is among the first wave of closures, due to begin winding down before the end of the month with the loss of more than 100 jobs.
The Government says it believes money will be better spent helping disabled workers find jobs in mainstream sectors.
Oldham workers seem resigned to losing their jobs, having recently ignored calls for a national strike.
