SUPER results, success and celebration were a hallmark of this year’s A-level results in Oldham.

And topping the table at Crompton House were Andrew Kelly — who achieved five grade As and is to study medicine at Cardiff University — and pal Andrew Brocklehurst — who secured two A*s, two As and a B and will go to Keble College, Oxford, to study chemistry.

Andrew Kelly, who got his results in biology, chemistry, physics, maths and general studies, said: “I’m really relieved but thrilled, even though I’ve got another five years of studying ahead.

“I’ll really miss school, but I’m looking forward to something new.”

Andrew Brocklehurst, whose results came in maths, biology, history, chemistry and general studies, said: “I’m totally buzzing, it’s terrific.”

The school’s overall pass rate has increased to 98.6 per cent. Half of the grades achieved by students at the school were A*, A or B.

At Newman RC College, the few students who went on to sixth form were over the moon with their results.

Topping the bill was Rachel Hall, who achieved three A*s in history, psychology and theatre studies, plus an A in English language.

Rachel, of Royton, will study law at Cambridge.

She said: “I didn’t expect to do so well. I can’t believe it. I’m so, so happy.”

Another high achiever was Sam Hunter, of Chadderton, who gained four As in English language, English literature, history and religious studies.

He will study theology and religious studies at Leeds

Fran Patra, who volunteers at Oldham’s youth centre Mahdlo, also enjoyed great results, achieving a triple distinction in public services.

She will study outdoor education at Liverpool John Moores University.
