Ex-soldier completes 20-mile charity walk — with a fractured knee and ankle
FORMER soldier Colin Henshaw overcame the odds — and the pain — when he completed a charity hike despite suffering from a fractured knee and fractured ankle.

Colin, an ex-Fusilier, was injured in a fall days before the trek along 20 miles of Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland. It was uncertain whether Colin would even be able to complete the walk over the rocky terrain, not least because he has to use a crutch.

But determined Colin finished the walk on Sunday an unexpected 20th out of 250 trekkers - in just over seven hours.

Colin was extremely proud of his efforts: “It was a really good time. They tried taking me off but I told them I’d be carrying on. They called me stubborn, but there was no way I was giving up.

“My knee and ankle were very painful throughout but I just carried on.”

The trek was one of several challenges he is tackling to raise money for armed forces charity Help For Heroes.

Colin’s next challenge — injury permitting — will be a Spire to Spire walk, from Winchester to Salisbury cathedrals, next month. Donate to his fundraising on 07759 857519.
