MOSSLEY artist Magnus Quaife could be in line for a prestigious art prize.
The 36-year-old was surprised to learn he had made it to the last 21 of the Northern Art Prize, and is now hoping to be selectd for the final shortlist of four.
He said: “It was a huge surprise to find out I had been nominated.
“I don’t really expect to make it to the short-list but it’s absolutely brilliant to be in the same company as some of the other artists on the long-list.”
Magnus was nominated by Gavin Wade, director of Birmingham-based Eastside Projects, after he exhibited at a public art gallery run by the organisation.
Nominations for the sixth annual Northern Art Prize came from across the North of England, and a panel of judges, including Turner Prize-winning painter Tomma Abts and Margot Heller, the director of South London Gallery, will decide on the finalists. The short-list will be announced next month, and the winner will pick up £16,500 next May.
