Anger as phone lines dead for a week
Date published: 24 August 2012
OUTRAGED Oldhamers have slammed BT after being left without phone or internet service for more than a week.
The company said 350 people in Springhead were affected when a cable was cut — but the Chronicle has received calls from residents in Waterhead, Counthill, Lees and Dobcross with the same problem.
Some lines have been down since August 15.
Residents are angry they haven’t been told when service will be restored.
The damage to a cable is extensive: more than 150 metres will need to be replaced.
But it wasn’t until Tuesday that BT sent customers text messages to apologise.
BT has now put a temporary solution in place and hopes to have all customers back online today.
