Not a level playing field, say pitch-row neighbours

RESIDENTS disturbed by foul-mouthed sports-lovers fear the problem is set to get worse, after councillors rubber-stamped plans for an all-weather pitch last night.
Locals living close to North Chadderton School say they already have to deal with swearing and noise from parents, supporters and children who use current school playing fields at weekends.
Oldham-based town planner, Alan Chorlton, addressed councillors with objections from residents.
He said: “The near-by properties are within yards of the field and pitch. Proposals are for the all-weather pitch to open from 8am to 10pm, seven days a week, 12 months a year.
“This is quite unreasonable so close to family houses.”
Officials were given six letters of objection at the meeting, and a petition with 18 signatures.
Mr Chorlton suggested a compromise solution, with an 8pm closing time during the week and 6pm at weekends. But councillors agreed to the original plans, which will see the pitch in use within three years.
