GCSE RESULTS: SUPER students are celebrating outstanding GCSE results and inspirational individual achievements.
Head teachers have paid tribute to the successes of pupils who received their exam results this morning.
They include Crompton House pupil Thomas Harrison who received 1A*, 6As and 4Bs — despite being treated for cancer.
A total of 29 pupils at the Shaw secondary achieved at least 11A* and A grades.
Hathershaw College notched up its best results with 90 per cent of pupils achieving 5A* to C Grades. The figure including English and maths is 51 per cent, up 3 per cent from last year.
High flyers at Hathershaw include head boy Juyel Ahmed and head girl with Olivia Flint.
Some year 9 and 10 students also sat their GCSEs one or two years early.
Half the pupils at Radclyffe School, Chadderton, chalked up at least five A* to C grades, including English and maths — and the figure is expected to rise.
Top performers at Radclyffe included deputy head boy Harvey Jones with 13.5 top A* and A grades.
There are concerns from teachers that English GCSEs have been marked too harshly, leaving pupils with lower results than expected.
Joy and sorrow
Joy was tinged with sadness at Hathershaw College, where a book of condolence opened this morning for former pupil Kyle Winterbottom, from Limeside.
The sporty teenager died on august 7 after a 40ft fall from a balcony. He would have received the equivalent of 10 GCSEs today, including English, maths and PE.
