CROMPTON HOUSE pupil Thomas Harrison
GCSE RESULTS: THOMAS Harrison had chemotherapy the day before he sat his IT GCSE exam — and still managed to get a top A* grade.
And he notched up another six As and four Bs despite missing classes as he battled cancer.
The Crompton House pupil was diagnosed in November 2011 with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer that affects cells in the lymphatic system.
He had six months of chemotherapy before being told at the end of May that his scans were clear.
Thomas (16) who lives in Milnrow said: “I am pretty chuffed. I did not really expect to do so well. I missed about 18/19 per cent of my lessons and because of my treatment I couldn’t concentrate. The day before my IT exam I had chemotherapy so I was quite tired.
“I could revise while I was down at Christie’s having my treatment and the school kept me up-to-date with work as well.”
Pupils at Crompton House raised £3,646 for the young oncology unit at Manchester’s Christie Hospital after Thomas was diagnosed.
He is now going to study history, geography, applied business and physics A-levels at the school and added: “I would like to work in aviation as either a pilot or an air traffic controller.”
