GCSE RESULTS: NEWMAN College has got off to a flying start, in a first year of “change, reorganisation and instability”.
The school was formed last September by the merger of St Augustine’s, Werneth, and Our Lady’s, Royton.
Pupils have continued to be educated at the two sites while preparing for the move to their new building on Broadway.
Pupils pulled in top grades, with an overall pass rate of 53 per cent, including maths and English, and 83 per cent with five or more GCSEs graded A*-C.
Head, Mike McGhee, said: “Great credit must be given to the young people and staff for the hard word and commitment throughout a sustained period of change, reorganisation and instability.”
Pupils returning to the books in September will be settling in at the school’s new £30million site on Broadway.
