DEGREE success: Charlotte at her graduation
“NEVER say never” is the motto of Charlotte Faragher and her family.
And the inspirational 21 year old has lived up to it after graduating from Lancaster University with an honours degree.
Charlotte from Watersheddings has cerebral palsy and was helped to live independently at university by three carers from the organisation Community Service Volunteers.
The former Oldham Sixth Form College pupil did a film and cultural studies degree — even keeping an online blog for the BBC during her first term.
She initially struggled to settle in but her proud mum, Fiona, said: “There was a huge turn around. Her attitude changed, she became really positive and she didn’t look back.”
Charlotte, who was nominated for a Pride in Oldham award in 2009, returns to Lancaster next month to do a masters in gender and women’s studies.
During her degree, she also volunteered at Beaumont College in Lancaster which is run by the disability charity Scope.
“She would go in there and chat to the students about what they can achieve,” explained Fiona.
“I know I am slightly biased but a lot of people we come across refer to Charlotte as being inspirational. Everybody loves Charlotte. She really is special — she is a really positive person.”.
