BIRTHDAY surprise: Olympic torch bearer Thora Beddard shares the torch with Amy Barrell and residents at Millfield
AN Oldham woman was handed a birthday candle with a difference on her 102nd birthday — an Olympic Torch!
Amy Barrell, of Waterhead, celebrated her birthday yesterday, with friends and family at Millfield Residential Home.
She was visited by Saddleworth torch-bearer Thora Beddard, who brought her torch replica for Amy to see.
Amy, formerly of Dobcross, was one of seven children and a former weaver.
Thora (94) was Oldham’s oldest torchbearer during the tour earlier this year.
