CLEANING up the mess: volunteers with Councillor Steven Bashforth, right
LOCAL residents got stuck to clean up after travellers left a Royton business park strewn with rubbish.
The clean-up was organised through the I Love Royton group after council workers had removed excrement from Salmon Fields Business Village.
Local man Chris Judge came up with the idea, which was posted on Facebook.
“There were several complaints about the travellers being here and they had left litter. I thought it would be a good idea to organise to pick it up, rather than moaning about it.”
The travellers drove over a steep grass bank to bypass a security barrier at the business park, then reportedly intimated workers as they arrived at work.
The travellers left on Tuesday following an eviction notice.
Local councillor Steven Bashforth praised the volunteers and said: “These people have decided they love where they live.”
