MY hero: Val meets Wayne, her mystery Good Samaritan.
A MYSTERY Samaritan who saved a pensioner’s life has been tracked down — and hailed a hero.
Wayne Smith (27), from Royton was the mystery rescuer who saved the life of 74-year-old Val Pemberton two weeks ago.
Great-grandmother, Val was knocked unconscious after tripping on the uneven pavement and fell into the road.
Quick-thinking Wayne moved her out of harm’s way and stayed until help arrived.
Val suffered a cracked rib, bruising and a fractured cheekbone, and didn’t find out her saviour’s identity until she issued an appeal through the Chroniclee.
Modest Wayne, came forward after reading the story.
Val added: “He alerted my neighbours and found out who I was. He even went down to the other end of the road to flag down the ambulance. He saved my life.”
Plasterer Wayne explained modestly: “I wasn’t going to come forward because I didn’t want to make a scene. I didn’t do anything major. I was just doing what anyone would have done.”
