MURDERED . . . Matthew Barrett
POLICE are appealing for information on the murder of an Oldham man following the first anniversary of his death.
The body of Matthew Alexander Barrett (38) was found on Tuesday, August 30, last year, in a derelict warehouse next to Oldham’s Wallshaw Street bus depot.
Barrett had been badly beaten and died from multiple injuries.
The homeless victim had last been seen alive visiting a takeaway on Union Street, near Mumps, late on August 26, 2011.
Det-Insp Iain Butler, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Matthew was a mild-mannered man regularly seen around Oldham town centre. He was found brutally murdered.
“Our investigation remains very much open.
“We are asking anyone with any knowledge about what happened to speak to us. We are also appealing for anyone who may have known him to get in touch.”
Anyone with information can call 0161 856 3691 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
In December Darren McCann (37), of no fixed address, was released without charge after spending three months in custody accused of the murder.
