Baton honour for boys brigade
Date published: 04 September 2012
A HISTORIC baton carrying a royal message made its way through Oldham on Saturday.
The boys’ brigade has sent four young men — representing the four nations of the UK — to convey their greetings to the brigade’s Royal patron at Balmoral Castle.
The Queen replied, sending her letter in a padlocked silver baton in a relay around the British Isles.
It will finally be read out at the brigade’s annual in London later this month.
The baton was received from Halifax battalion by Councillors Brian and Pat Lord, of Saddleworth Parish Council, at High Street in Uppermill and was passed to Oldham and District Boys Brigade president Alan Scholes at Oldham Mumps.
