A PRIMARY special school is to cater for children aged up to 19, following the cancellation of plans to create a specialist unit

Oldham had hoped build a £6million unit for older children with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties (BESD) at North Chadderton School. The funding was lost when the Government ended its national school rebuilding programme.

Older children with BESD currently attend Kingsland School, Failsworth, which also teaches pupils who have been excluded from school. From September 2013 those pupils will attend Spring Brook Special School in Heron Street, Hollins, which caters for primary children with BESD. It will undergo a £1.46m extension and remodelling.
