Hotel to check out of Oldham
Date published: 07 September 2012
The Travelodge hotel chain is trying to offload its Oldham branch as it fights to stay afloat.
The Manchester Street hotel is one of 49 the budget chain would like to take off its books..
The chain, which operates more than 500 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain and employs more than 6,000 staff, has asked landlords to back a rescue deal to help secure its future.
Creditors — including landlords across the UK — yesterday agreed a plan that will see rent payments slashed by 25 per cent across another 109 hotels. The remaining 347 hotels will be unaffected.
The company voluntary arrangement (CVA) is designed to allow Travelodge to get out of poorer-performing leases and free itself of a large burden of debt.
The Oldham hotel underwent a £1.7million overhaul when it was bought by Travelodge from Menzies Avant in 2008.
