North Chadderton: we’re ready for term

PARENTS have been reassured that all pupils will be returning to North Chadderton School on time on Monday.
The Chronicle reported there would be a delay in opening the new Newman College building on Broadway after the contractors, Balfour Beatty, failed to hand over the site on the agreed date.
Initially it was reported there could also be a delay of one or two days for some pupils at North Chadderton School, which has undergone a mixture of refurbishment works and new-build.
Oldham Council has now confirmed North Chadderton will re-open to all pupils as scheduled, on Monday.
Councillor Hugh McDonald, cabinet member for education and safeguarding, said: “We’ve worked very closely with the school staff and head teacher to ensure there is no delay. They have pulled out all the stops and deserve huge credit for this.”
Pupils at Newman College are being offered free leisure opportunities at venues across the borough during its enforced closure period.
Information on these will be available today at www.oldham.gov.uk/newmanupdate
