Charity launches new drama group
Date published: 07 September 2012
A NEW performing arts group for adults with learning disabilities is taking centre stage in Oldham.
Stage Right launches with an open evening at Grange Arts Centre — where actors such as Sarah Lancashire and Jane Horrocks launched their careers.
The group has been set up by Oldham-based charity Pennine Mencap with a £10,000 Lottery grant.
Specially-designed drama, music and sound workshops for people with learning disabilities and associated impairments will run on early Monday evenings, and are open to people from Oldham, Tameside, Rochdale and the surrounding area.
Stage Right aims to hold at least two public performances in its first year and is only the third performing arts group of its kind in the country. The others are the well-known Chicken Shed in London and Huddersfield’s Full Body and the Voice.
An open evening and sign-up event starts at 5pm on Monday. Grange is wheelchair accessible.
Sessions start on September 17 and cost £3..
