Last year’s Oldham Mayor Richard Knowles will learn tomorrow if he is to become Oldham’s latest honorary alderman.
The long-serving former councillor stepped down at this year’s May elections, marking the end of almost four decades of public service in the borough.
Mr Knowles a Liberal Democrat councillor in Saddleworth for 30 years.
During his mayoral year Mr Knowles took a three month break from civic engagements after being diagnosed with a rare nasal cancer.
The title of alderman was abolished in 1978 and the title of honorary alderman is used as a reward for long or distinguished local service.
Two-thirds of council chamber members must vote in favour of the proposal for it to be passed.
