Destiny Smith with mum Ann-Marie Warburton, accidentally pricked herself with a used syringe
Now five year old faces weeks of treatment
A GRANDFATHER is furious after his granddaughter accidentally pricked herself with a used syringe as she played.
Michael Warburton (66) was shocked to find out five-year-old Destiny was being treated at hospital to ensure she didn’t catch any infection.
Destiny must now suffer a five-week course of injections to ensure she is protected from Hepatitis B and C strains, plus HIV, all of which can be caught from used needles.
Destiny had been playing on a lawn outside Crossbank House, off Manchester Road, with her cousin, Courtney (10), and their mothers.
Before anyone realised the youngster had picked up the needle, it had already broken her skin.
Though it is thought Destiny hasn’t picked up an infection, Mr Warburton, of Worsley Place, Shaw, is calling for the landowners — First Choice Homes — to be more thorough when cleaning the area.
He said: “I am absolutely horrified about what’s happened, I’m furious.
A spokesman for First Choice Homes said it would look into the incident.
