‘There wasn’t a dry eye in the house’
Brave Adam McQuillan gave a thumbs-up after acting as ring-bearer at his mum’s wedding.

A year ago the youngster was battling for his life after being knocked down in a road accident in Abbeyhills Road.

But still recovering, the youngster stood up from his wheelchair to present the rings to his mum Anita, and bridegroom Adam Claxton at the ceremony at the Norton Grange Hotel in Rochdale.

Anita said: “The day was absolutely brilliant. Adam loved it; he smiled all day. I was very emotional and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house when he passed over the rings.

“He could’ve walked me down the aisle but we didn’t want to pile the pressure on him and what he did was amazing anyway.”

The couple, who have an 18-month-old daughter, Autumn and are expecting another child in February, spent the night dancing with family members and friends - something Adam made the most of.

“He sat on the floor and was laughing all night, but we held him up so he could dance as well,” said Anita.

Adam spent 10 weeks in a coma after the accident last September. Anita was told her son, now nine, would be brain damaged. His recovery has since astounded doctors; he is already able to write and eat independently.
