Tom reveals beast inside the band
Date published: 14 September 2012
A NEW book about one of Oldham’s most successful rock bands shows relations between the members were far from harmonious.
Inspiral Carpets fans can get an insight into the indie outfit this Sunday, when ex-frontman Tom Hingley appears at Oldham Literary Weekend.
The singer will be reading excerpts from “Carpet Burns” — a biography documenting Tom’s years with the “Madchester” five-piece.
He left the group in February, 2011, and was later replaced by original frontman Stephen Holt.
Tom described the band at times as being in a five-way marriage.
He said: “It’s very difficult holding a band like that together - all the parts are successful at what they do. Clint (Boon) is a very successful club DJ and on radio, Graham Lambert is promoting gigs all year round, Craig Gill is a DJ and writes books and Martyn Walsh helps people start their own music businesses.
“It was not quite as amicable as some of the members say it was. But you are going to argue about things that you love and are passionate about, It’s not a bad thing.”
He will perform live at the Naked Bean Cafe in Gallery Oldham.
