Val Pemberton: Emails made my life a misery.
Secretary quits after spate of emails
VAL Broadbent has resigned as secretary of the Oldham Sunday League, citing “nasty, bullying emails” as the reason for her departure.
Stepping down after eight years in the role, Val claimed a dispute over refereeing got out of hand.
She said: “It is with sadness that I have resigned. This is due to six nasty, bullying emails I have received from three referees.”
The emails alleged Val was responsible for their not being asked to officiate at matches.
“The referees in question don’t seem to grasp that decisions are made by a committee and not just one person.
“Those emails made my life a misery last week;. As my time is voluntary I don’t feel I or anyone else should have to put up with emails like those.”
Earlier this year Val received the Clarrie Newman Memorial Trophy at the Oldham Sunday League awards night for 20 years of service to team 3D Dynamo.
Jack Bamford, Oldham Sunday League chairman, declined to comment on the emails but said; “The job she has done has been superb — she is one of those people who puts her heart and soul into everything she does, so to lose her is a massive blow.”
