Rollercoaster lives of literary guests
Date published: 14 September 2012
CAREER highs and lows feature strongly in the Oldham Literary Weekend that got underway today.
Manchester City legend Paul Lake will be talking about his book that takes readers through his short, promising career, cruelly cut short when he was 22. He will be at Oldham Library on Saturday.
On Monday “I’m a Celebrity.... contestant Crissy Rock brings the weekend to a close.
Best known for her role in cult comedy TV hit “Benidorm” and for playing Maggie Conlon in Ken Loach’s film “Ladybird Ladybird”, Crissy is a hugely popular actress and comedienne whose path to success was far from easy, as her autobiography reveals.
Tom Hingley, the former frontman of Oldham band Inspiral Carpets, will be at the Naked Bean Cafe in Gallery Oldham on Sunday to perform tracks from the band’s second album “The Beast Within” and take the audience through the “Madchester” movement of the 1980s and 1990s.
The literary weekend turns spooky tonight with ghostly happenings at Uppermill Library.
Paranormal investigators will attempt to discover whether rumours of a ghost are true, and spooky stories will be told.
Entry to events is £2 for members and £4 for non-members. Information at www.oldham.gov.uk/libraries.
