Child sex case review
Date published: 18 September 2012
AN independent review is planned to see if more could have been done to protect the children sexually exploited by a gang of older men in Rochdale and Heywood.
The Rochdale Safeguarding Children Board (RSCB) has confirmed it will hold an independent inquiry, following the convictions of nine men who were jailed for 77 years in May for grooming five youngsters for sex.
Police believe up to 47 victims could have been targeted by the gang, which included ringleader Shabir Ahmed, (59) of Windsor Road, Coppice and takeaway worker Kabeer Hassan (25), of Lacrosse Avenue, Oldham.
The review will investigate how Rochdale Council, police and health officials dealt with the victims.
