LITERATURE lovers have lapped up a weekend showcasing the many ways to tell a story.
Music, dance and ghostly happenings have all been part of the second Oldham Literary Weekend.
Former Inspiral Carpets frontman Tom Hingley performed classics on his acoustic guitar, as well as readings from his autobiographical book “Carpet Burns”, at Naked Bean, Oldham Library, last night.
Young Oldham Dance Company performed ‘Storyline’, an Arts Council funded project by the Oldham Council’s Libraries and Arts Development service, which delivered traditional storytelling with contemporary dance and photography, at Gallery Oldham, on Saturday.
Sceptics and paranormal believers also visited Uppermill for a Friday night of ghost hunting, with organisers saying the inaugural event could have in fact sold fourfold.
Former Manchester City player Paul Lake, whose career was cut short at 22, spoke candidly about his harrowing autobiography, at Oldham Library and Lifelong Learning Centre.
Punam Ramchurn, senior literature development officer for Oldham Library, said: “The weekend has been fantastic and Tom Hingley last night was the cherry on the cake, a very unusual music and literary coup.”
