Couple survive car’s 120ft cliff plunge

 A YOUNG couple have spoken of their relief after surviving a 120ft car plunge down a Spanish cliff.

Barman Matt Woods (21) and Chelsea Eastwood emerged with only minor cuts and bruises after the car crashed through safety barriers after they had swerved to avoid a cat.

The Mitsubishi Galant rolled down the rocky cliff face, before smashing into a tree and landing on its roof next to a walkway — inches from a further 300ft drop into the sea.

The pair, originally from Shaw but now resident in Benidorm, were only yards from their apartment as they returned home from a shopping trip.

Waitress Chelsea (22), speaking from their Spanish home, said the the incident was “all a blur”.

She said: “I remember shouting to Matt that there was a cat in the road and he tried going round it, but he said the back end just lost control.

“I remember us going through the railings and I can’t really remember the fall — just both of us at the bottom asking each other if we were all right. It was all a bit crazy.”

The couple escaped by squeezing through the passenger door and clambering clear.

Chelsea added: “I don’t think it really sank in at the time how serious this could have been.

“The car is still there, we can see it from our balcony, it’s about a two minute-walk away.”
