Harvest takes its toll on criminal element
Date published: 18 September 2012
A HIGH-PROFILE police operation to collar thieves, thugs and fugitives has got off to a flying start.
In the first week of Operation Harvest, 802 people have been arrested and £98,795 seized.
Almost a quarter of those arrested were wanted – including three on the county’s Most Wanted list.
The operation has seen 423 arrests for burglary, robbery and vehicle theft and 379 arrests for crimes involving violence.
Officers checked on 1,483 known thieves across the county and over 300 victims of domestic abuse, to ensure violent partners have stayed away.
Almost 1,200 scrap-metal yards, second-hand shops and pubs and clubs have been visited to ensure they are adhering to relevant licensing and trading legislation and are not involved in handling stolen goods.
