Woman knocked out by sports teacher

AN Oldham PE teacher punched a woman in the face and knocked her unconscious in a nightclub, Derby Crown Court heard.
Matthew Kay (24) was ordered to pay £1,200 compensation, do 100 hours unpaid work and stay at home after 7.30pm for four months. Kay admitted assaulting Charlotte Krommendijk in Club HQ, Glossop in February, leaving her in need of work on four teeth.
Robby Singh, prosecuting, said Kay made “a smarmy comment” to two girls, which led to an argument and he suddenly lashed out - leaving his 24-year-old victim “a heap on the floor”. She was unconscious for 20 seconds.
Caroline Patrick, for Kay, said he runs physical education classes in schools. Though suspended after the arrest for two days, he has since worked normally.
She said Kay only went out “two or three times a month” and wasn’t a regular drinker, but had been drinking that night.
“He is genuinely embarrassed and ashamed about his actions. He is genuinely mortified that he hurt anybody,” added Miss Patrick.
After the case his victim’s sister said her family was relieved the case was over – but Charlotte’s life had been “turned upside down” by Kay.
“We don’t feel justice had gone far enough. Kay is still working with kids, I can’t see parents being very happy about that. It’s affected my sister’s life so much and he’s carrying on as normal. She wants it to stay with him like it will stay with her.”
