Bonfire celebration returns
Date published: 21 September 2012
OLDHAMERS will once again enjoy a family-friendly free fireworks and bonfire bonanza on Guy Fawkes Night.
The council is reviving the popular event after more than a decade — this year it will be on the actual night, November 5, at Boundary Park from 5pm.
There will be street entertainers, games and traditional food as well as a professional firework display and bonfire.
Assistant cabinet member Councillor Amanda Chadderton said: “Historically the bonfires at Alexandra Park were extremely popular. They attracted big crowds and there’s a genuine public appetite to reinstate them.
“And staging a larger event like this can help to discourage smaller groups of people from holding unsupervised bonfires elsewhere – events which we know can put great pressure on emergency response services.”
